More about Accounts and Purchasing jobs

Part of an accounts job is to prepare detailed reports of income and expenditure for heads of department and the General Manager, usually monthly or weekly, with comparisons to forecasts and previous periods. In the accounts department you will also prepare profit-and-loss accounts and the balance sheet for senior management. You are also likely to assist in preparing budgets and in business planning.

Bank statements must be reconciled, and VAT and PAYE accounted for and paid to the Government. Depending on your position in the accounts department you will chase late payments, report bad debts, and keep a careful eye on the cash flow, so that the business avoids a crisis such as an unauthorised overdraft. Wage and salary calculations and payments are also handled by the accounts department.
