The incumbent is to replace the owner’s wife (who wishes to retire) and will report to the owner. The incumbent will be working with two other managers - an Administration Manager, who deals with all enquiries, bookings, admin, etc, and a Hosting and Farm Manager, who looks after the guests and manages the game farm & estate. The lodge is small accommodating 16 guests in 8 twin-bedded chalets, fully catered, with a staff of 8. Most of the guests are international and most of them are from Germany. The incumbent will have to stay in temporary accommodation on the property while a pair of semi-detached cottages is being built for management.
Skills/Requirements:
Managing staff, training staff, developing staff, developing & maintaining work descriptions & procedures, producing daily work schedules, quality control of staff.
Housekeeping – rooms, common areas, laundry and consumable & housekeeping stock management. Food – planning menus, recipe management, preparation, presentation, waiting & serving. Bar – managing stock, selling, serving, wine list Grounds – maintaining gardens, pool, chalet surrounds, boma, vehicle shelters and other guest areas. Purchasing – ordering & purchasing food, consumables, bar supplies, record keeping and shopping. Hosting guests – hosting at meal times sometimes where frequently lively wide ranging conversations take place. Office/Admin – sometimes handling reservations & enquiries when the Admin Manager is away.
While it would be an advantage if the incumbent is familiar with office routines associated with a small lodge, this is not part of the job spec or essential. The incumbent must be happy to be located in the country, amidst a very small community, away from the bright city lights. A package of up to R8000 per month plus accommodation and some meals would be considered for the right applicant.
