Overland Tour Guide - South Africa
Description:

Drifters conducts adventure tours and overland safaris throughout Southern and East Africa, focusing primarily on the unique wilderness and wildlife areas that Africa has to offer. We are currently in a recruiting phase and are looking for competent, responsible, and adventurous individuals to guide these tours on a full time basis.

Overland guiding is a unique field that offers guides the opportunity to travel, and to visit the pristine conservation areas of Africa, while building a repertoire of diverse guiding experience and life skills.

Overland guides need to be able to drive a range of safari vehicles, guide in wilderness areas including game walks and game drives, cater meals including cooking on open fires, manage money and expenses, among other skills.

It goes without saying that this job requires extensive travel, and is only suitable for people who can afford to spend large amounts of time on the road.

While on tour, a guide is effectively his or her own boss. Competent, self-sufficient, confident and motivated individuals are required, who can function without supervision and take responsibility for all aspects of running a tour successfully.

People skills are the most important qualities required. Guides spend a great deal of time with their guests, helping them to discover Africa while having a great adventure. Guest safety and enjoyment is a guide's primary job. The ability to deal with people in a professional and friendly manner is absolutely key to being a successful tour guide.
